This entry was posted on Thursday, March 15th, 2018 is filed under Myths.

Patients presenting complaint:  Gap in her smile

Initial assessment: 7mm anterior open bite associated unilateral crossbite on the right side. Aetiology is tongue thrusting.

Overview of the case: Anterior open bite cases are treated very successfully with Invisalign. The dual approach of intruding the molar teeth while extruding the anteriors allows for very efficient closing of the  a.o.b

No. of aligners: 47 aligners including refinements

Retention: This is very serious in these cases as they are a massive risk of relapse. Proper consent needs to include that retention is bonded retainers in conjunction with lifetime removable retainers, that will need to be replaced every year.
